To Do Today: Enjoy the Season…on Ice Skates! (Silver Spring Ice Rink)

I grew up in the neighborHOOD so let’s just say that ice skating wasn’t something that I was exposed to as a young child. However, I wanted my children to have a different reality. I want them to at least be able to say they tried it, even if they hated it ~ kinda like veggies!

So, after seeing a few toddlers on the ice, I put RJ in ice skating lessons at 18 months old. By the end of the first lesson, he was laughing and walking on his skates and mommy, well, I was holding on for dear life. But, we had so much fun that I knew I would make it a winter favorite!  My only challenge with this new found favorite was how COLD it was inside the rinks. We needed hats, gloves, and several layers of clothes (and socks) just to be comfortable. So imagine my excitement when I learned that there was an outdoor rink we could enjoy on warm(er) days: Silver Spring Ice Skating at Veterans Plaza.

RJ easily glided around and around the rink while enjoying the seasonal music playing in the background!

After about an hour of skating, they cleared the rink for about 5 minutes as they resurfaced the ice. The children loved watching this big machine squirt water on the ice and quickly returned to skating once it was done.

If you have trepidations about heading onto the ice, consider enrolling in their weekend lessons! It is such a fun skill to have!

As an added bonus, your receipt also gets you a free hot chocolate from Whole Foods! The perfect ending to a perfect outing!  Definitely should be on your To Do List!
