A Hidden Oasis: Bladensburg Waterfront Park

Whenever anyone mentions outings and water in this area, some of the places I immediately think of are Annapolis, Georgetown, National & Baltimore Harbors, and Hains Point.  I’m sure you could come up with a few of your own.  But, my guess is that Bladensburg would not be one of them.  It certainly wasn’t for me. However, once I heard about the Bladensburg Waterfront Park, I had to visit.

There’s a playground, Visitor’s Center (with fish tanks and hands-on activities), gazebo, picnic area, as well as a location for free, guided boat tours.

Families can not actually get very close to the water (and believe me, from the looks of it, that’s a good thing) so the bridge is the best way to see the beauty of the Anacostia River.

Overall, I think families would really enjoy an outing to this hidden oasis.  Their website also says that they offer fishing and canoe paddling lessons so if you have a little one who loves the water and outdoors, this is the perfect place!
