It’s pick-your-own fruit season again; the perfect activity for all ages!  Beginning in April, I start to check the websites of my favorite locations to see which is going to open first.  Inevitably, it turns out to be Shlagel Farms!

Unlike most pick-your-own fruit fields, Shlagel Farms only grows one fruit, strawberries!  On our recent visit, we took our time to pick the ripest strawberries we could find!  While last year Rielle squished more berries than she picked, this year, many more made it to her mouth and she had to be reminded that we needed to purchase them first!

RJ is an old pro so he quickly filled our bucket!  And we hadn’t even made it down one row!  As I was paying, RJ noticed a new playground on the farm grounds!

There’s also a sandbox, chicken coup and a few goats in a pen next to the playground for their enjoyment as well.

RJ quickly learned that fresh strawberries spoil much quicker than those in the store so we made JAM!  It didn’t quite solidify in the way we expected.  Better luck next time (and a new recipe!)
